Three ex-MPs face ACC probe for corruption, money laundering

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an investigation into allegations of corruption and money laundering involving three former Members of Parliament (MPs).

The probe officially started on Wednesday, as confirmed by ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Md Aktarul Islam.

The former MPs under investigation are Mohammad Habib Hasan, former MP of Dhaka-18, Advocate Md Nurul Islam Talukder, former MP of Bogra-3, and Mohammad Abdul Wadud, former MP of Chapainawabganj-3.

The ACC official said Habib faces extensive allegations of corruption and unethical activities through the abuse of power.

He is accused of amassing illegal assets worth crores of taka in his own name, as well as in the names of his wife and family members.

It is reported that his son, Abir Hasan Tanin, has a property in the so-called Begum Para in Canada worth CAD1.55 million.

Additionally, the ACC's investigators have gathered information about his substantial illegal assets both domestically and internationally.

Nurul is accused of embezzling funds allocated for various projects by misusing his power.

He is reported to have illegal assets worth crores of taka, including properties and flats bought in the capital and elsewhere, in the names of his wife and children.

The investigation has also uncovered substantial illegal assets held by him both in Bangladesh and abroad.

Meanwhile, Wadud is under scrutiny for extensive allegations of corruption and unethical activities through power misuse.

He is reported to have amassed illegal assets worth crores of taka in his own name, as well as in the names of his wife and family members.

The investigation has revealed significant amounts of illegal assets held by him both within the country and internationally.
