Says the anarchic situation in the country has worsened
BNP has decided to boycott the upazila parishad election in all phases.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement in a press release on Tuesday.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the standing committee held on Monday night.
The press release said BNP has boycotted the previous national and local government elections under the Sheikh Hasina-led government and Election Commission as a fair and peaceful election environment was not created.
There are logical reasons for not participating in the upcoming upazila polls as the existing “anarchic situation” has worsened, the party added.
Earlier, the Election Commission announced that the upazila parishad elections will be held in four phases.
The first phase of voting will be held on May 4, the second phase on May 11, the third phase on May 18 and the fourth (final) phase on May 25.
