US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedanta Patel has reiterated his unwavering support for any peaceful rally around the quota reform movement in Bangladesh.

He said this in response to a question about the situation in Bangladesh surrounding the quota reform movement at the regular briefing of the US State Department on Monday (July 29).

Vedanta Patel said, 'The United States has steadfast support for peaceful assembly in Bangladesh. We have come to know that the internet connection is somewhat normal there. However, I call on the government to give the people the opportunity to use the Internet and social media without interruption. Through this, the citizens of Bangladesh and our United States will know important information.

In response to another question, he said, 'Those who want to protest peacefully, we definitely support them. However, since the matter is related to the US Congress, I cannot say anything specific about it.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday (July 30) the European Union (EU) has expressed its concern over the 'direct firing' and illegal killings surrounding the quota reform movement in Bangladesh.
