After a five-day Eid-ul-Fitr and Bangla New Year holiday, people have started returning to Dhaka via the Daulatdia ferry terminal.

However, unlike last year, people did not face any hardships despite the number of people and vehicles being comparatively more than usual.

According to Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Daulatdia terminal sources, a total of 3,944 vehicles crossed the Padma River via the Daulatdia terminal in 24 hours from 6am on Sunday to 6am on Monday.

Of these, 521 are buses and minibusses, 292 good-laden trucks, 1,617 small and medium cars, and 1,514 motorcycles.

A total of 18 small and big ferries are plying on the Paturia-Daulatdia route. In addition, passengers are crossing in 20 launches, said BIWTC Daulatdia terminal Branch Manager (Commercial) Salahuddin.

As there are enough ferries, no vehicles are waiting to cross the terminal. However, as the day progresses, the pressure of vehicles are also increasing, he added.
