At least 20 people were reportedly injured during a clash between students of Comilla University (CU) and police amid the Bangla Blockade program in Comilla on Thursday.

The confrontation occurred around 3 PM near the Ansar camp in Kotbari. According to their previously announced program, the students attempted to take out a procession near the Ansar camp when police intervened. An argument ensued, escalating into a clash between both parties. The police then opened fire, causing the protesting students to scatter and seek cover in nearby bushes.

Among the injured are student Anon Majumder and three policemen. The identities of the other injured individuals are yet to be confirmed. Following the clash, students have taken to marching on campus and surrounding areas, creating a tense situation.

CU student Sahab Uddin expressed his frustration: "The police attacked our peaceful program without any provocation. Students will not accept this."

Comilla’s Kotwali Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Feroz Hossain stated that the police are in the field to maintain a peaceful environment and will not allow any disturbances on the highway.

The students have been protesting for the last few days, demanding the abolition of quotas in government jobs. On Wednesday, the High Court upheld the circular to reinstate the 2018 quota system. However, the students rejected this decision and continued to demand the passage of a law in parliament to abolish "discriminatory quotas."
