Bijoy Express derailment: Authorities say heatwave bent tracks

Rail connection between Dhaka and Chittagong snapped
According to primary assessment of the railway authorities, the Bijoy Express train derailed in Comilla after the tracks bended due to heatwave.
The incident took place in Comilla's Nangalkot around 2pm on Sunday.
The train was coming from Chittagong and heading towards Jamalpur. Following the incident, the rail connection between Dhaka and Chittagong snapped.
Bangladesh Railway General Manager (East) Mohammad Nazmul Islam said: “A train derailment has occurred about 5km from Hasanpur, before Nangalkot. The engine remains on the track, but at least six to seven coaches have been derailed. Authorities are currently conducting initial tasks, including sending a relief train to the scene.”
Laksam Railway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Murad Ullah Bahar said: “Train movement on the upline has been halted since the incident. However, trains will run on the down line. I am heading to the scene. We will provide details later.”
Around 30 people were injured, according to locals.
