Awami League issues show cause notice to Kushtia chairman candidate

Notice sought Sadar Uddin Khan's written response within 15 days
Kushtia District Awami League President and District Council Chairman Sadar Uddin Khan has received a show cause notice from the party for his inappropriate statement that those who oppose him are opposing Allah.
The notice, signed by Awami League Office Secretary Biplab Barua, was sent on May 11. The issue became public knowledge on Saturday night.
The show-cause notice says Sadar Uddin Khan's recent statements in the media and on social media have tarnished the image of the Bangladesh Awami League and are contrary to the organization's principles and ideals. His statements, made in an inappropriate manner, are against the discipline of the organization and constitute a punishable offense according to the constitution of the Bangladesh Awami League.
The notice sought Sadar Uddin Khan's written response within 15 days explaining why disciplinary action should not be taken against him. He has been asked to send the written response to Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's political office.
On May 1, Sadar Uddin attended an election rally in Khoksa upazila to support his younger brother and Upazila Parishad chairman candidate Rahim Uddin Khan. A 2 minute 18 second video of his speech at the rally was widely shared on social media.
In the video, Sadar Uddin Khan said: “Those who oppose me are opposing Allah."
Attempts to contact Sadar Uddin Khan on his mobile phone for comments were unsuccessful.
The first phase of elections in Khoksa Upazila was held on May 8. Khoksha upazila Awami League Joint General Secretary Al Masum Morshed was elected chairman with the horse symbol.
