Arab Spring was a series of anti-government protests

There is no scope for an Arab Spring in Bangladesh after national polls, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

"No matter how much they (BNP) try to foil the elections, the election will not be obstructed. There is no scope for Arab Spring in Bangladesh after polls,” he said at a press briefing at the political office of the Awami League president in Dhanmondi on Sunday.

He said Awami League is following the rules of the Election Commission. And BNP and its allies are setting fire every day to foil the election. Strikes and blockades are being announced by them.

Recently, Russia accused the United States is planning a series of events to destabilize the situation in Bangladesh after the January 7 elections.

"If the results of the people's will are not satisfactory to the United States, attempts to further destabilize the situation in Bangladesh along the lines of the ‘Arab Spring’ are likely," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson MV Zakharova said in a statement on Friday "in connection with the danger of destabilization of the situation in Bangladesh".

The Arab Spring or the First Arab Spring was a series of anti-government protests, uprisings and armed rebellions that spread across much of the Arab world in the early 2010s. It began in Tunisia in response to corruption and economic stagnation.

In response to that, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Sunday also ruled out any possibility of an Arab Spring in Bangladesh.
