PM’s commitment to zero tolerance against corruption

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that no individual, regardless of their influence, is exempt from scrutiny for corruption.

During a press conference held at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's political office in Dhanmondi on Tuesday, Quader emphasized: "There have been no grave allegations of corruption against former DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia. However, if corruption is found, it will be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.”

Quader reaffirmed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's commitment to a "zero tolerance" policy against corruption, noting that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) operates independently.

No one is exempt from corruption no matter how influential they are,” he said.

Highlighting the independence of both the judiciary and the ACC, Quader said: "Anyone can be investigated for corruption. After the investigation, if warranted, a case can be filed, leading to a trial.”

He said: "The ACC did not investigate Asaduzzaman Mia. How would we know about it? The government cannot take action without being aware of the allegations. Whenever an allegation of corruption comes to light, action is taken. There has never been an instance where the government failed to act on corruption once it was brought to its attention."

Regarding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's upcoming visit to India, Quader said: "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will engage in bilateral discussions with the Indian prime minister on various issues. The topics of discussion are decided by the prime minister herself. It is not yet known whether the Teesta or Ganga treaty will be discussed.”
