Ship was released at 12:08am on Saturday

The MV Abdullah ship left the high-risk area on Wednesday after being freed from Somali pirates on Sunday morning.

SR Shipping Chief Executive Officer Meherul Karim told the media: “It is expected to reach Dubai's Al Hamriya port on Monday morning.”

He added: "The ship left the boundary of the high-risk area at 12pm on Wednesday at a speed of 12 nautical miles (22.2km/h). The European Union naval warships continue to escort the ship from a safe distance.

“MV Abdullah's Captain Mohammed Abdur Rashid is communicating with the EU warships and maintaining the ship's speed and course.”

On March 12, Somali pirates hijacked the MV Abdullah ship in the Indian Ocean. The ship was released at 12:08am on Saturday; that is, in the early hours of April 14.

As such the ship was released after 32 days of being held hostage. It is said that the ship was released with a ransom.

In 2010, another ship of the KSRM Group, MV Jahan Mani, was hijacked by Somali pirates. It took 99 days to rescue the ship.
