9 held over attempt to snatch accused from police station

Police have detained nine members of Bogra’s Shahjahanpur upazila unit Swechasebak League for attempting to snatch an accused from a police station.
The incident took place at Shahjahanpur police station on Saturday night.
At least five policemen sustained injuries during the incident. They are receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The detainees are Nuruzzaman Nuru, 40, general secretary of Shajahanpur upazila Swechchhasebak League and chairman of Majhira union, Saddam Hossain Robin, 23, Ramjan Ali, 31, Saidur Rahman Khokon, 33, Borhan Uddin, 29, Serajul Islam, 20, Aminul Islam, 26, Md Mitul, 26, Md Mitul, 26, and Wahabuzzaman Nayeem, 34.
Their apprehension took place on a local road where they were allegedly plotting to launch another attack on the police station.
Following their detentions, the police conducted a drive and recovered two foreign pistols, along with 15 rounds of bullets and phensedyl. Besides, 36 unregistered motorcycles were also seized from them.
Additional DIG Sudip Kumar Chakraborty disclosed the information at a press briefing at his office on Sunday afternoon.
He said that the criminals would not be spared. Preparations are underway to file three cases against Nuruzzaman Nuru and the others.
The detainees will be produced before the court and a seven-day remand will be sought, he added.
During interrogation, Nuruzzaman Nuru confessed that his manager and Swechchhasebak League Organizing Secretary Hasan Nazmul had firearms in his house.
Police later found a foreign pistol with eight rounds of bullets, three bottles of phensedyl from the ceiling of Nazmul’s bedroom. However, he managed to flee.
According to local sources, a team of police led by SI Anisur Rahman of Shahjahanpur police station raided the Aria Bazar area around 9pm on Saturday and arrested Mithun, general secretary of Aria union unit Swechchhasebak League.
He is accused in several cases including murder.
