BNP disconnected from people due to Jamaat ties, says Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has criticized the BNP, Jamaat and their like-minded parties for vandalism and sabotage attacks across the country, saying the two parties are conspiring to create chaos throughout the country on Human Rights Day on December 10.

“After failing in their protests owing to their detachment from the public, now they want to advance their movement through sabotage attacks,” Quader said at a press briefing at the Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi on Wednesday.

He said: “The BNP is a party that does bad politics. They are disconnected from the people due to their ties with Jamaat. At one point, Jamaat may even be the main leader of the BNP. The BNP will be Jamaat's B-team.”

About the distribution of seats with 14-party alliance partner Jatiya Party, Quader said: “How can I answer this before our meeting? We will hold a meeting first, and we will listen to their opinions.”

Regarding the opposition party of Awami League in the election, Quader said: “There will indeed be an opposition party. Trinamool BNP - they are quite a big coalition. Then there is the Supreme Party. Many other parties are competing in the election… Whoever participates in the election will be competing against each other.”

On the occasion of the fall of dictatorship day on Wednesday, the Awami League general secretary said: “Pure democracy is rare in the world. Despite this, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangabandhu's daughter after 1975 took the reins of that democracy facing hundreds of obstacles. That is why we are moving forward on the path of developing democracy despite some errors and deviations.”
