Buet students alarmed after receiving Hizb ut-Tahrir emails

A number of students of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) are alarmed as they have received emails from the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.
The students said they received Hizb ut-Tahrir's propaganda message in their academic email addresses in the early hours of Friday. They have later issued a statement in this regard.
The statement said: “Today, on April 5, 2024, at 12am in the name of Subal Das ([email protected]), a PDF press release was sent from the banned student organization named Hizb ut-Tahrir to the institutional email of many general students of all academic years of Buet.
“The title of their press release was ‘Who will protect our meritorious children from the aggression of Chhatra League?’ and they called the general students towards this banned organization. Such PDFs are sent using separate emails ([email protected] [email protected]) today (Friday), Thursday and earlier.”
On campus, there are anonymous stickers with QR codes, which can be scanned to view Hizb ut-Tahrir propaganda, the statement added.
Being alarmed by such activities of the banned organization, the students said they complained to the vice chancellor and the Students' Welfare Council at different times.
“We were informed that an investigation is going on about who is secretly carrying out such activities. We have been directed to submit online complaints to the VC, ADSW (Assistant Director, Directorate of Students' Welfare) and IICT (Institute of Information, Communication and Technology).”
In the statement, the Buet students said they do not support the existence of banned fundamentalist organizations like Hizb ut-Tahrir. “There is no question of accepting the support or sympathy of such a banned organization.”
Earlier, several Buet students voiced concern over an increase in activities by the outlawed extremist group, Hizb ut-Tahrir.
They reported a series of email campaigns throughout March, targeting hundreds of Buet students with what they described as “hate content.”
