Home Affairs Adviser Lt General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has asked the law enforcers and temple authorities to remain alert ahead of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindus.

“The army and navy have been deployed to ensure the security of temples. The temple committees should also be vigilant on their part and the volunteers must not be absent at night,” Jahangir on Sunday (October 6) after visiting the Ramna Kali Mandi in the capital.

Police, RAB and Ansar members have been deployed in large numbers alongside the armed forces across the country, he said.

“This time, the Durga Puja will be celebrated in a peaceful and unprecedented manner,” General Jahangir said.

He also said that an eight-point directive on security and management has been sent to every temple and administration.

The adviser hoped that everyone would be able to enjoy the festival without any hindrance or security issue.

When asked about measures taken against those involved in communal attacks in Ramu and Nasirnagar, he said, “They will be punished. The incumbent government is working to ensure justice.”
