Indian Islamic scholar Dr Zakir Naik has announced that Peace TV Bangla will soon resume broadcasting in Bangladesh.
On Monday, he made this announcement during a Q&A session on his YouTube channel.
When a viewer asked if Peace TV Bangla could be launched in Bangladesh, Naik said that Peace TV is available in Bangla, English, Urdu, and Chinese. The satellite broadcast has never been discontinued. However, due to the suspension of Peace TV’s downlink permissions in Bangladesh and India, cable operators have stopped broadcasting it.
He further explained that while the satellite broadcast is ongoing, the cable network broadcast in Bangladesh is currently not operational. Efforts to resume the broadcast are underway, and an application has been submitted. If the interim government in Bangladesh grants permission, the channel could be back on air within a few days or weeks.
Notably, after the July 2016 attack on the Holy Artisan Bakery in Dhaka, it was alleged that one of the attackers was inspired by Zakir Naik, leading to the suspension of Peace TV. Following the attack, an investigation was conducted in Delhi, and Peace TV’s broadcast was also halted in India.
Dr Zakir Naik, the Indian Islamic scholar, has been in exile in Malaysia for over seven years, where he has permanent residency.
