No fair election possible under Awami League’s rule, says Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the party is staging protest programs peacefully in the face of arrests, cases and obstacles.
“We will go to the end of it. But what will be the final result depends on the government. Our behavior will depend on how the government behaves,” said the BNP leader at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan in the capital on Thursday.
Mirza Fakhrul said: "The European Union has said that it is not sending an observer team to the upcoming national elections of Bangladesh. These words prove that fair elections cannot be held under Awami League in the country.”
He said that no election is possible under Awami League. And this thing is tested. There is no doubt that fair elections cannot be held under them and people cannot exercise their right to vote.
“Still, when the government tells foreigners that there will be fair and free elections in this country, there is no problem. Then the foreigners sent the team. They surveyed everything and talked to all kinds of stakeholders. They have now made it clear that there is no environment to send a team to this country. That means it has been proven again in the words of the European Union.”
Fakhrul said: “We think that what the Awami League is doing under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina is in no way helping to establish democracy in a country but is going against it. We strongly condemn it.”
Mirza Fakhrul Islam announced new changes to the pre-announced program.
There will be rallies in Dhaka Metropolitan North city and in Jatrabari on Friday.
On the same day, prayers will be held in cities, districts, upazilas and municipalities across the country praying for the recovery of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's illness.
BNP Secretary General also said that some more programs will be added if necessary.
