More than 150 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the capital to maintain law and order ahead of the January 7 polls.
BGB members are seen patrolling important places in Dhaka on Saturday morning, BGB official Major Asiq Iqbal confirmed.
He said that the BGB teams have been patrolling important places like Kamalapur railway station, the metro rail stations, and Bangladesh Secretariat since the morning.
On Friday, 1,151 platoons of BGB were deployed across the country.
BGB will work as a mobile and striking force to maintain peace and order from Friday to January 10, 2024 under "Aid to Civil Power" to assist the local administration.
Army troops were also scheduled to be deployed on Friday but were later delayed to January 3.
Army personnel will be deployed across the country from January 3 to January 10 to help maintain law and order before, during, and after the upcoming national polls.
The national election is scheduled to be held on January 7 amid boycott by some political parties including BNP and its allies.
