Vote counting in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election was halted on Friday morning, following a clash between two groups.
The altercation was carried out by two groups over the announcement of the polls’ results.
SCBA Chief Election Commissioner Senior Advocate Abul Khair said several lawyers were attacked in the SCBA polling centre and hence the vote counting was halted.
Meanwhile, independent candidate Nahid Sultana Juthi was elected as the secretary of SCBA.
Later, the law enforcers managed to bring the situation under control. The ballot boxes are currently in police custody.
It was known that most of the candidates and lawyers had requested the SCBA election commission to count the votes later in the day, rather than at night.
However, Nahida and her followers allegedly put pressure on the election commission to count the votes immediately and declare the results.
