MP Anar murder: DB seeks bank account details of 10 accused

BFIU asked to provide the bank account information of the accused


Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Monday submitted a petition to a Dhaka court to search the bank account information of 10 accused in a case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station over the murder of Awami League lawmaker of Jenaidah-4 Anwarul Azim Anar in Kolkata

Assistant Commissioner of DB Mahfuzur Rahman filed the petition.

After the hearing on the application, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain ordered the head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) to provide the bank account information of the accused.

The 10 accused in the case are – Shimul Bhuiyan alias Shihab alias Fazal Mohammad Bhuiyan alias Amanullah Sayeed, Tanvir Bhuiyan, Silisti Rahman, Siam Hossain, Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, Mostafizur Rahman, Faisal Ali Sazi, Taj Mohammad Khan alias Haji, Chelsea Cherry alias Aria and Jamal Hossain.

The investigation officer mentioned in the plea that the unknown accused in the case connived with each other and premeditatedly kidnapped MP Anar, the victim of the case, and took him to Kolkata, India.

Preliminary investigation and interrogation of the arrested accused revealed that the accused took the victim to a rented house in Kolkata's New Town area and brutally killed him. They separated the bones and flesh of the victim's body and dumped flesh it in the commode of the toilet and bones were thrown into nearby canals with garbage, said the application,

The accused had been plotting to kill the victim for a long time. The preliminary interrogation of the arrested accused revealed the gruesome description of how they planned, kidnapped the victim of the case and extorted money and dumped the body parts.

Three accused involved in the incident of the case have been arrested.

To collect the names and addresses of the other fugitive accused involved in the incident and for the sake of proper investigation of the case, three accused have been placed on remand.

For the sake of uncovering the mystery of the case and fair investigation, it is necessary to issue an order to the BFIU to provide the information about how many accounts are there in a bank against the NID and passport number of the 10 accused.

Anwarul Azim Anar, a lawmaker from the ruling Awami League, crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. He stayed at his friend Gopal Biswas’s home in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

The following day, he left to see a doctor at around noon and was expected to return in the evening. However, a WhatsApp message from his phone to Biswas said that he had gone to Delhi instead and would call if necessary.

Since then, he could not be reached by phone. Eventually, the government confirmed his death on May 22, citing Indian police.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka court on Monday issued an arrest warrant for Siam Hossain, a key suspect in the murder incident.
