Former parliamentarian of Noakhali-4 constituency Ekramul Karim Chowdhury has been detained.
He was apprehended from Abdul Malek Lane under Khulshi police station in Chattogram city on Tuesday (Oct 1) night, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said in a press briefing.
RAB recovered Tk 10 lakh in cash and some foreign currencies from his possession.
He was arrested in connection with the murder of a transport worker named Khokon, 17, RAB said.
On February 28, 2013, during the countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the BNP-Jamaat, anti-hartal activists opened fire on a pro-hartal procession at Dutterhat area on Sonapur-Maijdi road.
At that time, the transport worker, Khokon, was shot and killed. Khokon’s father, Mojibul Haque, filed the case with Sudharam Police Station on September 8, accusing 53 people, including Ekramul Karim, and 200-250 unnamed people.
