Wasa attributes adjustment to inflation

The Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) has announced a 10% increase in water prices, effective from July 1.

In a notification issued on Wednesday, Wasa attributed the price adjustment to inflation, in line with Section 22 of the Wasa Act 1996.

For residential consumers, the new water price is Tk16.7 per unit (1,000 litres), up from Tk15.18. For commercial consumers, the price is now Tk46.2 per unit, up from Tk42.

Section 22 of the Wasa Act permits the authorities to increase water tariffs by a maximum of 5% each fiscal year with the board's approval.

In July 2022, Wasa raised water prices by 5%.

Back in 2017, the prices were Tk10 per unit for residential consumers and Tk32 for commercial users.

From 2017, Wasa increased the prices by 5% annually for three consecutive years.

In 2020, residential water prices saw a significant 25% increase following government approval.
