The Dhaka University Fund received Tk 1.11 crore from four donors upon launching.
The DU authorities launched the initiative to mobilise funds for research and academic development.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the initiative at a press conference, reports our DU correspondent.
The four donors are the DU Alumni Association, PHP Family, Universal Medical College, and Popular Medical College Hospitals.
Donations will be received from DU alumni, rich and well-established members of the society, renowned institutions, philanthropists, and education and research enthusiasts, said DU authorities.
Thanking the donors, the DU VC said, "We introduced the fund by receiving some donations from four organisations. It will continue and we will receive funds from enthusiasts through an event every year."
The VC called upon well-established DU alumni, philanthropists, as well as organisations both at home and abroad to come forward with donations to enrich the education and research activities of the university.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman expressed optimism that it would be possible to increase the fund to Tk 1,000 crores by receiving donations.
