5 dead as bus hits microbus in Gopalganj

Five people, including four women, were killed when a bus rammed into a microbus on Faridpur-Barisal highway at Chagolchira in Maksudpur upazila of Gopalganj Wednesday morning.

Three more people were injured.

Maksudpur police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Ashraful Alam confirmed the information.

He said: “The microbus driver and four women were killed on the spot. One of the deceased has been identified as Salma Zaman, 35, from Dhaka’s Pallabi area. The age of the other deceased is between 50 and 55 years. On receiving the information, the police and fire service personnel recovered the bodies of the victims.”

The three injured have been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

SI Noman of Bhanga Highway police station and Deputy Director of Madaripur Fire Service Shafiqul Islam said that traffic on the road returned to normal at around 12pm after the rescue work of about one and a half hours.
