PM Hasina: Bangladesh plans to generate power from hydrogen by 2035

Bangladesh has undertaken a plan to produce electricity from hydrogen and ammonia in addition with solar and wind power plants to meet up the demand of power, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday.

While responding to a question at National Parliament, the premier said that there is a plan to use hydrogen fuel experimentally in Bangladesh by 2035.

Awami League lawmaker Habibur Rahman raised this table question in the session and the session was presided over by the speaker of the house Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

Sheikh Hasina said: “Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited (RPGCL) has formed a cell to analyze data of ongoing research and activities taken in the developed world on sustainable and reliable methods of producing hydrogen as fuel. The cell will prepare a project proposal after receiving acceptable information. It is expected that by 2035 it will be possible to use hydrogen fuel experimentally in the country,”

The premier also said: “Bangladesh has set a goal to produce 40% electricity with clean fuel by 2041. Renewable energy is producing 8.3% of total electricity production in Bangladesh till now. There are more than 100 projects on the pipeline to produce 10,000 megawatt power. When these projects will be implemented within 20230, the uses of natural fuel will be reduced in producing electricity,”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh has started generating power through nuclear energy, solar energy, wind energy and energy from waste to reduce the dependency on natural energy as natural gas, coal, Petroleum and other fossil fuels are decreasing gradually.
