Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana speaks at a meeting in Rangpur on Friday, November 2023.

She urged voters to go to the polling stations without any fear

Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana on Friday said that the environment for holding the 12th parliamentary elections is fully prepared.

She assured that the field for election will remain prepared for the election in the upcoming days as well.

“I hope that the polling environment would not be disturbed in any way,” said the commissioner.

She said these things to the journalists after the preparatory meeting of the four districts of Rangpur division on Friday afternoon on the occasion of the upcoming 12th national parliamentary elections.

“We have no time to see who is enforcing blockade and hartal. The strikes or other political disturbances can not disrupt the polling environment,” said EC Rashida.

The commission is working to create an environment for voters so that they can cast their votes smoothly in the elections.” I hope that the environment will be good in the election, and that voters will also be able to vote smoothly. According to the past electoral history, the army is more likely to be a striking force in the upcoming polls.”

However, the EC has yet to finalize the decision regarding the army.

EC Rasheda called upon the voters to go to the polling stations without any fear.

She urged the voters to cast their preferred candidate.

The election commissioner warned that stern action will be taken if voters are barred from going to the polling station or voting.

She appealed to the voters to fearlessly report anything unlawful to law enforcement agencies. She said: “Any malpractices such as preventing voters from coming to polling stations will be strictly suppressed.”

In response to a question whether there is any possibility of postponing the election, she threw a counter question and said: “'Why should it be postponed?”

Sources of the meeting said that the election commissioner gave various instructions related to the election in the two and a half hour long meeting till 1pm.
