Quader: Imposing VAT on metro rail wrong decision

Urged passengers to be more conscious while using metro rail
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said that the 15% VAT imposed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on the metro rail is a wrong decision as it would tarnish the metro rail's reputation.
“This is a wrong decision. Is there VAT on metro rail in India? No, there is not. So why should we impose it? I have informed the prime minister, and she will consider the matter," he made these remarks during a seminar held at the InterContinental Hotel in Dhaka on Sunday.
Obaidul Quader said: "The metro rail is no longer a dream, it is a visible reality. Our metro rail is very beautiful and free from noise pollution. The metro rail is our asset. Yet, the pillars are covered with posters, making it dirty and untidy.”
He added: "Our target was to complete the work on six MASS rapid transit (MRT) lines by 2030. The ground mapping for lines one and five has already been completed."
He urged passengers to be more conscious while using the metro rail.
