BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the interim government has played an effective role in the last three months following the fall of the Awami League government in the mass uprising.
He said the interim government has accomplished a number of tasks.
Fakhrul made the comments after paying homage at the mausoleum of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Thursday.
"We believe that if everyone cooperates with them (the interim government) and if they are able to hold an election at an appropriate and logical time, they will be able to meet the challenges before the nation,” he said.
Referring to BNP's ongoing struggle, Mirza Fakhrul said: "Today we have vowed that, together with the people, we will stop imperialism and preserve independence, and continue the struggle and movement."
He also pointed out that when the Awami League came to power, they conspired to destroy the BNP, stating that over 700 leaders and activists were abducted or killed.
He claimed that over 6 million false cases were filed against people by the Awami League.
Mirza Fakhrul accused the Awami League of using torture and repression to establish fascism upon coming to power and said they had aimed to establish a one-party rule.
