A ban on the use of single-use plastics in the area has also come into effect. There are also speed control measures, proper parking management within the airport and enforcement of the no-horn rule through mobile courts.
The mobile courts will be operated for seven days to implement the directives.
The horn-free zone will cover a 1.5km stretch from Le Méridien hotel to the Scholastica campus, encompassing the airport and adjacent areas.
A team of magistrates from the Department of Environment, the airport and the BRTA will be stationed at three points within 1.5 km of the horn-free zone.
Executive director group captain of the airport Md Kamrul Islam, said, "We aim to raise awareness among drivers by establishing a horn-free environment. Reducing the use of car horns should become a habit, as it will help decrease environmental pollution. Our efforts to promote this change will continue."
