A case has been filed today with the investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and eight other prominent individuals, accusing them of crimes against humanity and genocide. The charges pertain to incidents that allegedly occurred between July 15 and August 5 of this year.

The complaint was lodged by Supreme Court lawyer Gazi MH Tanim on behalf of Bulbul Kabir, the father of Alif Ahmed Siam, a class 9 student who was shot by police in Savar on August 5 and succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Individuals Accused:

  • Sheikh Hasina, Former Prime Minister
  • Obaidul Quader, Former Minister
  • Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Former Home Minister
  • Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Former State Minister
  • Mohammad Ali Arafat, Former State Minister
  • Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Former Inspector General of Police (IGP)
  • Harun Or Rashid, Former Detective Branch (DB) Chief
  • Habibur Rahman, Former DMP Commissioner
  • Harun Ar Rashid, Former Director General of RAB

Case Details:

The case was filed at around 1:30 PM today, with the complaint formally registered by the tribunal's investigation agency. According to Ataur Rahman, Deputy Director of the agency, the investigation into the allegations has officially begun. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the Chief Prosecutor's Office of the tribunal for further legal procedures.

The complaint not only names the accused individuals but also implicates political organizations, including the Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, and their associated front organizations, in the alleged crimes.

Background:

The filing of this case follows a statement made earlier today by Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, who indicated that the interim government would take steps to initiate trials for the killings that occurred during the students' protest. The protests and subsequent police action have been a source of significant controversy, sparking nationwide discussions on the use of force by state authorities.

The case against Sheikh Hasina and others marks a critical development in the ongoing political and legal challenges facing the former government and its affiliates. As the investigation progresses, it is expected to draw considerable attention both domestically and internationally.
