Abdullah, 23, a third-year political science student at Shaheed Suhrawardy College, passed away Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
Abdullah, who was injured during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, died at around 10am. He had been actively involved in the movement from its inception.
The health sub-committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and Kazi Saiful Islam, a faculty member in the Bengali department at Suhrawardy College, confirmed the news of his death.
Abdullah hailed from Benapole, Jessore.
Reports indicate that Abdullah sustained a gunshot wound on the evening of August 5 near Bangshal police station at Tantibazar intersection.
The bullet struck the centre of his forehead, leaving him on the road for two to three hours before receiving medical assistance.
Though the bullet narrowly missed his brain, Abdullah underwent a lengthy surgery from 3am to 6am, initially making a good recovery and returning home.
However, severe headaches soon followed, leading to his readmission to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors found an infection in his head, necessitating another surgery.
With limited improvement, he was transferred to CMH on August 22 with support from the Bangladesh Navy. Although his condition initially stabilized, he was later placed on life support.
The health sub-committee said that Abdullah’s funeral prayers will be held at the Central Shaheed Minar after Maghrib prayers on Thursday.
