Environment Minister: 100-day action plan to be implemented for priority programs

Takes charge of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister


Newly appointed Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said a 100-day action plan will be implemented by giving priority to the important programs under the ministry.

“Necessary steps will be taken to solve air pollution, noise pollution, water pollution, plastic-polythene pollution and hill cutting by taking suggestions from the stakeholders. Election manifesto of Bangladesh Awami League and Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan will be implemented on a priority basis."

He said this while talking to reporters at his office at the Secretariat on the first day after taking charge of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry.

The environment minister said: “The law will be properly implemented to prevent forest encroachment. Efforts will be made to take the ministry number one in terms of performance. Transparency and accountability will be established in the activities of the ministry. It will not be acceptable to create any controversy in the performance of duties or otherwise. The media will be fully supported, I will work in coordination with the media. Also, the active participation of relevant ministries and departments is required to prevent environmental pollution so that I will work in coordination with other ministries.”

The minister reached his office at the ministry at 9am on Sunday and interacted with senior officials including the secretary.  Later, in a formal meeting, he instructed the officials on various issues for inclusion in the 100-day program.  

Before the meeting, the heads of various organizations and associations, including heads of the Department of Environment, Department of Forests, and Bangladesh Forest Research Institute, conveyed their best wishes to the minister.
