Most garment workers in Dhaka's Savar and Ashulia industrial areas returned to work on Saturday morning, but 49 factories remain closed.

Out of the closed ones, 13 are closed due to general holidays and 36 are under Section 13(1) of the Labour Law.

The information was confirmed by Md Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Ashulia Industrial Police-1 around 12:30pm on Saturday.

To maintain order, additional security personnel have been deployed, and surveillance has been increased.

In the Narsinghpur area of the Baipail-Abdullahpur road in Ashulia, the army, APBn, and police are stationed in front of various factories.

They are also patrolling different areas.

According to Ashulia Industrial Police-1, the majority of the closed factories are garment factories. However, some closed factories also produce pharmaceuticals, leather goods, and other items.

Khayrul Mamun Mintoo, legal secretary of the Bangladesh Garments and Sweaters Workers' Trade Union Centre, said that the situation on Saturday was relatively calm. Workers at one factory closed under Section 13(1) are waiting outside, while operations continue in other factories.

Overall, the situation is stable, he added.
