9 killed in Mymensingh, Manikganj road accidents

At least nine people died and 12 sustained injuries in two road accidents in Mymensingh and Manikganj on Wednesday morning.

In Mymensingh, five people were killed and at least 10 injured as a bus hit another bus from behind while it was picking up passengers on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal upazila.

Three of the deceased were Altab Hossain, 50, Kamruzzaman Liton, 28, and Serajul Islam, 28; the identities of the other two remain unknown at this time. 

Trishal police station OC Main Uddin said the incident unfolded when a bus had to halt in the Chelerghat area for a tyre change.

Some of the passengers decided not to wait and disembarked the bus, opting to board another one instead. As these passengers were in the process of getting on the second bus, a third bus ran over them, leaving three dead on the spot and injuring 12 others. Two of them later succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.   

In Manikganj, four people were killed and two were hurt as a human hauler plunged into a roadside pond after being hit by a bus while picking up and dropping off passengers on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj Sadar upazila.

The deceased were human hauler driver Zahid Hossain, 34, Hena Akter, 50, Maleka Begum, 55, and Chandra Madak, 52.

One of the injured was taken to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Pongu Hospital) in Dhaka in critical condition, while the other is receiving medical care at Manikganj Sadar Hospital.
