‘Bangladesh as a trusted friend of India will continue to work together’
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has congratulated his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on winning the historic third term.
“On behalf of the people of Bangladesh and on my behalf, I wish to extend my heartiest congratulations to you on the resounding victory of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 18th Lok Sabha elections,” she wrote in a message on Wednesday.
“As the leader of the largest democracy in the world, you carry the hopes and aspirations of the people of India. Your convincing victory is testament to the trust and confidence that the people of India have reposed in your leadership, commitment and unwavering dedication for the country.
“It is my firm belief that our friendly and close ties will continue in all areas, as you start the journey with renewed mandates for a rare 3rd consecutive term,” read the message.
The prime minister also assured Modi that Bangladesh, as a trusted friend of India, will continue to work together for the betterment of the people of the two countries as well as for a prosperous and peaceful region.
“I would also like to convey my best wishes to the people of India for the continued peace, progress and prosperity,” she said, looking forward to closely working with you in the coming days.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud also congratulated the NDA and the BJP on winning the elections.
