BNP leader Amanullah sent to jail

A Dhaka court today sent BNP leader Aman Ullah Aman to jail after rejecting his bail petition in a graft case, in which he was convicted for 13 years in 2007.

Judge Abul Kashem of Dhaka's Special Judge's Court-1 passed the order after he surrendered before it and sought bail through his lawyer Taherul Islam Tauhid in the case.

The judge also directed the jail authorities to provide him with first class division in jail custody as per the Jail Code.

Before Aman's surrender before the court, a group of BNP leaders and activists brought out a procession on the court premises. They chanted slogans demanding the withdrawal of the "false" case before police drove them away.

Aman's wife Sabera was sent to jail on September 3 after her surrender before the same court in the same case, in which she was sentenced to three years in jail.

But the chamber judge of the Supreme Court on September 5 granted her bail till January 15, 2024.The Anti-Corruption Commission on March 6 of 2007 filed a case against the couple for acquiring illegal wealth.
