Community clinics are respected worldwide

Health Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen has said BNP once turned community clinics into cowsheds.

“After we (Awami League) came back to power, medical services resumed, and they are now receiving medicine and services there first,” he said while inaugurating a clinic in Nilphamari on Saturday.

The minister said: "Community clinics, dedicated to serving the people, are extremely dear to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Now, community clinics in Bangladesh are respected by people all around the world."

He further said: "We are trying to reduce cesarean sections. If pregnant women are checked at community clinics and then go to the upazila health complexes or hospitals for delivery, cesareans will no longer be necessary. This will save them from the costs of cesareans and help them lead healthy, normal lives. Efforts are being made to enhance the functionality of community clinics further.”

Emphasizing the development of the local medical system, he said: "If we can ensure better treatment even in the remote areas of the country, people from all over the country will not go to Dhaka for treatment and the people of Dhaka will not go abroad."

“The quality of our doctors is not less than that of developed countries. We just have to improve the quality of treatment and equipment and have to provide medical services,” he said.

“One thing we doctors need to keep in mind is that mistakes on paper can be corrected. But it is not possible to correct the wrong treatment.”
