Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said the BNP has fallen into its own trap while trying to oust the ruling party from power.
"The BNP has foiled its own movement. While attempting to put us in a ditch, they themselves have fallen into it," he told a press conference at the Awami League’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office in Dhaka.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said the BNP men waged a movement but they are now foiling it themselves.
"The BNP has fallen into its own trap… It is destabilizing the situation all while making complaints to foreigners against us. They are staging various dramas. The director of those dramas is Tarique Rahman," he said.
Quder said senior BNP leaders, who have been arrested so far, cannot avoid responsibility as the party killed a policeman, attacked journalists and a hospital, set fire to buses, and burnt a sleeping bus worker alive.
"Can BNP leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, avoid responsibility for those? If they are brought to justice, none will be able to avoid responsibility. These misdeeds and terrorist acts are being carried out as per directives of BNP leaders," he said, adding that a Canadian court has declared the BNP a “terrorist organization.”
Quader said the BNP staged a drama on October 28 and threatened to oust the Awami League government. The BNP brought a fake adviser to US President Joe Biden here to topple the government, he added.
