Election Commissioner Md Alamgir said that heightened security measures have been ensured for the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections, surpassing even those of national elections.
He made these remarks during a discussion meeting on law and order held in the conference room of the Gopalganj deputy commissioner's office on Sunday afternoon.
While in national elections, the army was primarily deployed, for the upazila elections, members from various law enforcement agencies will be stationed, along with the army.
Addressing concerns about maintaining law and order, EC Alamgir highlighted that unlike national elections, where all activities happen simultaneously across the country, the upazila elections are held in phases. This allows for sufficient deployment of law enforcement personnel in each phase of the elections.
Prior to the discussion meeting, EC Alamgir paid respects at the mausoleum of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in Tungipara.
He laid floral wreaths, offered prayers, and observed a moment of silence in memory of Bangabandhu and his martyred family members.
