260 sacks of Indian sugar seized in Sunamganj

The seized goods worth Tk16 lakh
Police on Saturday seized 260 sacks of sugar, worth Tk16 lakh, smuggled from India from Surma River in Sunamganj.
Based on a tip-off, an operation was carried out in the Sadar Upazila's Paindagram area near the Surma River on Saturday.
Three smugglers were detained at this time.
The detainees are Ziaur Rahman, 45, Nizam Uddin, 35, and Abdul Mannan, 28, According to police, the smugglers brought 260 sacks of Indian sugar from the border of Bishwambharpur upazila.
Subsequently, Bangladeshi sacks were substituted for Indian sacks and transported to the Dirai market via motorized boats for commercial purposes.
Tukerbazar naval police outpost Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ataur Rahman said: "A case has been filed against them and 260 bags of sugar have been seized."
The police said as the price of sugar is low in the Indian market, the smugglers are trying to bring them to Bangladesh in the hopes of making a profit.
