Retired secretary AMM Nasir Uddin has been appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
The government made the announcement in a gazette notification on Thursday (November 21).
It appointed four election commissioners through a separate notification.
The commissioners are: retired additional secretary Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar, retired district and sessions judge Abdur Rahmanel Masud, retired joint secretary Begum Tahmida Ahmed and Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah.
The interim government formed a six-member search committee on October 29 to reconstitute the EC which oversaw the controversial January national polls. The search committee submitted a list of 10 names to the president’s office on Wednesday (November 20).
The last commission headed by Kazi Habibul Awal resigned on September 5, a month after a mass movement forced Sheikh Hasina out of office.
