Two arrested with heroin worth 1.5C in Gazipur

Recovered heroin in polythene packets inside cloth bag under back seat


Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) arrested two drug dealers with 1.456Kg of heroin worth Tk1.5 crore in front of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, Gazipur city at around 8:30pm on Saturday.

GMP Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Abu Torab Shamsur Rahman confirmed this information in a press conference at his office on Sunday.

The arrestees are Fahad Hossain, 27, and Safat Hossain, 20.

A total of 14 polythene bags containing 1.456Kg of heroin, and a truck (No-Dhaka Metro-Ta-20-1772) used for drug supply were seized from them.

Gazipur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Syed Rafiul Karim said that based on intelligence information, he found out that drugs would be transported by truck through the Shibbari-Gazipur intersection road. The police increased patrolling on that road.

In the afternoon, a truck was heading up that road when they noticed the police presence, they tried to drive off by another route. Police stopped the truck and interrogated the driver and helper. When their behaviour seemed suspicious, police searched the truck and recovered heroin in polythene packets inside a cloth bag under the back seat behind the driver's seat. Meanwhile, the truck was seized and the driver and helper were arrested, he added.

GMP Metro Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Utpal Kumar said, during interrogation, the accused admitted that they collected heroin from the border area of ​​Chapainawabganj. Later, the heroin was brought in a truck for sale to an unnamed person in Gazipur (name withheld for the sake of investigation). Legal action is underway against those arrested.
