A half-day blockade of roads and waterways, called by the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) protesting the killing of its two members was enforced in Rangamati on Monday.

The information was provided in a press release sent by UPDF’s Niran Chakma.

The UPDF blamed Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) for the killing in Langadu upazila of the district on Saturday and demanded the arrest and punishment of the killers.

Long-distance transport movement remained halted on Rangamati-Khagrachhari and Chittagong roads in the morning. However, the traffic within the town remained normal.

Members of UPDF and associate bodies enforced the blockade by placing logs and setting fire on the roads.

To prevent any untoward incidents, police patrols was intensified at key points.

On Saturday, a group of seven JSS members allegedly attacked UPDF members engaged in organizational activities in the Boro Harikaba area of Langadu, leaving Bidyadhan Chakma, 45, and Dhanya Moni Chakma, 35, dead.
