The National Sirat Mahfil is underway at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital, with attendees braving inclement weather to participate in the religious gathering.
Although the main program was scheduled for 3pm on Saturday, people began arriving as early as 12pm, disregarding the rain. As time passed, the crowd continued to swell.
On-site reports indicate that people from various parts of the country, including Dhaka, are attending the event.
Before the official proceedings began, performers took to the stage, delivering Islamic songs, hamd, and naat.
Volunteer Saiyed Abdullah, who is in charge of maintaining order, shared that although prominent Islamic scholar Mizanur Rahman Azhari’s name is not featured on the event poster, he is expected to attend the mahfil, sparking heightened public interest.
Additionally, many renowned Islamic scholars, including those who faced persecution during the previous government, are also expected to join, which is contributing to the increasing crowd.
The chief guest for the event will be Anwar Hossain Taher Al Jaber Al Madani, khatib of Andarkilla Shahi Jame Mosque and a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Other distinguished guests include Saiyed Kamal Uddin Abdullah Jafri, Maulana Musaddik Billah Al Madani, Dr Mufti Abu Yusuf Khan, Professor Dr Abdus Samad, Kamrul Islam Saeed Ansari, Maulana Mosharraf Hossain, Sheikh Maulana Abdul Hamid, Maulana Shakhawat Hossain Raji, Dr Khalilur Rahman Madani, Professor Dr Rafiqul Rahman Madani, Muhaddis Maulana Mahmudul Hasan, Maulana Dr Zakaria Nur, Sheikh Mohammad Jamal Uddin, and Hafiz Maulana Mufti Amir Hamza.
Originally, the mahfil was scheduled for Friday afternoon but was postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions. The event was rescheduled for Saturday to accommodate participants.
