Bangladesh girls handed Bhutan a crushing 6-0 defeat in Kathmandu Friday to finish as group winner in the SAFF Under-16 Women’s Championship 2024.
Sauravi Akanda Prity grabbed her second brace in three matches while Fatema Akter, Kranuching Marma, Sathi Munda and Thuinuye Marma added one each at ANFA Complex in Lalitpur.
The girls in red and green earlier secured the final spot after beating Nepal (2-0) and India (3-1) in the first two games of the four-nation South Asian competition.
After tearing past Bhutan defence to meet Fatema’s long free-kick, Prity headed home on the bounce to give Bangladesh the lead in the 13th minute before Fatema scored her own from an almost 30-yard long free-kick three minutes after the half-hour mark.
It was Fatema again who assisted the third goal from a corner converted by Kranuching from close range two minutes later.
Sathi tapped home two minutes after the break before Thuinuye’s powerful strike extended the advantage in the 69th minute.
Prity danced past Bhutanese defenders for a calm finish in the 77th minute to bag her fifth goal of the meet.
In Sunday’s final, Bangladesh will face India who thrashed hosts Nepal 10-0 the previous day.
