Patuakhali man dead after being swept away by tide

A young man died while trying to rescue his aunt and sister from rising waters in Patuakhali's Kalapara on Sunday as Cyclone Remal approached Bangladesh.

The deceased, Sharif, 24, at around noon went from Anantapara with his elder brother and uncle to rescue his sister and aunt Matowara Begum who were at the latter's home in in the Kawar Char area, which was under several feet of water due to high tide. 

Sharif was swept away by waves while they were swimming to the house. Locals recovered his body after an hour, according to police sources.

Mahipur police station Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain Talukder said police have been sent to the spot. Further necessary action is being taken.
