Heatwave: DGHS issues guidelines to stay safe

Maximum temperatures ranging from 40°C to over 42°C
In an effort to minimize health risks due to the scorching heat, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) issued eight guidelines and urged people to follow it.
According to the guidelines, there is a severe heat wave in the country. To stay healthy, awareness is necessary.
Those who are at highest risk -
- Children
- Elderly person
- Disable person
- Daily wager, rickshaw puller, farmer, construction worker
- Person with overweight
- Person especially those who have comorbidities like heart disease, high blood pressure
The instructions are -
- Adults should drink at least 2.5 to 3 litres of safe water throughout the day. Avoid street food and drinks.
- Rest frequently in the shade or a cool place.
- Bathe more than once if necessary.
- Wear white or light-coloured loose thin cotton clothes in summer.
- If you have various health problems, such as diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure or other diseases, consult a doctor immediately about what to do during summer.
- Take care of mental health.
- Take self-guided measures and encourage others to stay healthy this summer.

The whole country has been reeling under scorching heat as a very severe heat wave gripped parts of Bangladesh, with maximum temperatures ranging from 40°C to over 42°C in some areas.
“Very severe heat wave is sweeping Pabna, Jessore and Chuadanga districts and a severe heat wave is sweeping Dhaka and parts of Khulna divisions and Rajshahi district,” said a bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
