A violent clash erupted at Mauna Highway Police Station in Sreepur, Gazipur, resulting in the burning and vandalizing of police vehicles. The incident occurred around 3 PM on Saturday when anti-discrimination activists attacked the police station.
Protesters set fire to three police cars, including a wrecker and a patrol car, inside the boundary wall of the police station. In an attempt to control the situation, police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The conflict began when agitating students, who had been demonstrating since 11 AM at the Palli Vidyut intersection of Mauna Chowrasta, marched to the Mauna flyover area armed with sticks. Tension escalated as government party workers and supporters took position under the flyover. The students chanted slogans against the police and government leaders, leading to further agitation.
The protesters then set fire to three police boxes and three vehicles under the Mauna flyover, intensifying the chaos.
Attempts to contact Sheikh Mahbub Morshed, the officer in charge of Mauna Highway Police Station, for a statement were unsuccessful as he was unavailable by phone.
This incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing anti-discrimination protests, highlighting the increasing unrest and the severe measures being taken by activists and law enforcement alike.
