Former army officer Major General Ziaul Ahsan claimed he was kept in Aynaghor for eight days.
“A team of DGFI picked me up from home on the night of August 7. After that, I was kept in the Aynaghor for eight days till last night. I am not involved in any murder and disappearance. I am innocent, I want justice.”
He told the Dhaka court about this during his remand hearing on Friday.
Taking the court's permission during the remand hearing, he said: "Someone among them who are coming out of Aynaghor should say that I have left them there. The way I am being blamed is not correct. I am unwell. I have a 75% blockage in my heart, along with other physical issues."
When the court asked about Pegasus software, Ziaul Ahsan said: “There is no such thing as Pegasus. I didn't do mobile tracking. I am innocent.”
When this former army officer spoke these words in court, pro-BNP lawyers opposed him.
They said that he is accused of genocide. He has no right to speak.
However, Ziaul Ahsan's sister Advocate Nazneen Nahar strongly opposed it.
At that time, Ziaul Ahsan said that there was no case or GD against him while he was in RAB.
After hearing both sides, the court placed him on an 8-day remand.
Ziaul, former director general of NTMC, was arrested from Dhaka's Khilkhet in a case filed with New Market Police Station over the killing of Shahjahan Ali, 24, during quota reform protests on July 16.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) announced in a brief message on Friday that Ziaul was arrested late on Thursday night in the Khilkhet area based on secret information.
On August 6, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate issued a statement saying Major General Ziaul Ahsan, director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), had been relieved of his duties.
