Shahjahan Omar, the expelled vice chairman of BNP and the Awami League candidate for the Jhalakathi-1 constituency, on Friday, said that he is the youngest member of the Awami League.

“I am the youngest member of your party. Hope you will accept me as the youngest member. Although I am the youngest member in Awami League politics but very old in the spirit of Joy Bangla.”

He said this while addressing an election rally at Bangabandhu Udyan in Barisal.

He said: “I left the Pakistani military in 1971 and came to India through Kashmir. Meeting Osmani (General MAG Osmani) there, I came to Bangladesh with some freedom fighters. Then we formed 34 organizations in 34 thanas in the Barisal division. I participated in the bloody war.”

The recognized freedom fighter said that he was lucky to be shot three times for this country.

“I am the only freedom fighter from Barisal who received “Bir Uttam” recognition from Bangaanadhu after independence,” said Shahjahan Omar.

“I fought in the liberation war responding to the call of Bangabandhu. My spirit was Joy Bangla….I attacked the enemies with this spirit. So my spirit is not new,” he added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also attended the rally.
