The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned all gatherings, rallies, and protests in the Kakrail area and its surroundings in the capital for Saturday.
The ban order has been issued ahead of the Jatiya Party's rally and the ongoing standoff between two groups.
This information was disclosed on Friday in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Md Mainul Hasan.
The notice said that to manage the current situation and maintain public order, the DMP is exercising its authority under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76) to prohibit any form of gathering, including meetings, rallies, processions, and demonstrations, around Pioneer Road, and the Kakrail area, effective Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Jatiya Party has announced a rally in Kakrail at 2pm on Saturday, demanding the withdrawal of what they claim are false cases against the party chairman, secretary general, and other members, as well as for the control of essential commodity prices.
Anti-fascist student groups have declared a counter-protest in front of the Jatiya Party's office on the same day.
The DMP has taken this decision to prevent any untoward incidents amidst these planned gatherings.
